Frequently asked questions about general-purpose light steel buildings
What uses are general-purpose buildings suited to?
Storage, workshops, retail units, administrative units and welfare facilities — uses with standard loads and no complex process requirements. They are economical in single-storey and low-rise solutions.
How do they differ from residential types?
The difference is in the level of fit-out, not the structure. In a general-purpose building the insulation, joinery and wet-room arrangement are simplified to the need; in residential types, comfort, acoustics and energy performance come to the fore.
What foundation is required?
A light steel building is lighter than concrete, so foundation loads fall; the foundation is nonetheless designed from a ground investigation. Cutting back on ground preparation is the most expensive mistake even in a light building.
Can the building be extended later?
Bolted light steel systems suit extension along the bay direction. The precondition is that foundations and bracing were calculated with the future bays in mind.
